AQUME Foundation is excited to recognize August as Black Philanthropy Month (BPM), established in 2011 by Dr. Jacqueline Bouvier Copeland. She has reached at least 20 million people through her work with The Women Invested to Save Earth (WISE) Fund and is included in The Congressional Record as a History Maker for her significant contributions to society. Learn more about Black Philanthropy Month and Dr. Jacqueline Bouvier Copeland here.
Thus, in honor of Black Philanthropy Month (BPM), AQUME Foundation is celebrating our rich philanthropic culture all month long. We are the first Black-founded and Black-led foundation in West Michigan, and our mission is to center racial equity and economic justice in philanthropy, while recognizing the importance of highlighting the presence and contributions of our Black philanthropic community. We strongly encourage our West Michigan community to intentionally show its support to Black nonprofits, banks, and businesses all month long.
Here are three ways to show your support during Black Philanthropy Month:
1. Give Black
Support local, regional, national and global nonprofits focused on Black communities. AQUME Foundation’s giving campaigns can be found on our website.
2. Bank Black
Open banking accounts with Black banks and credit unions: see the list here.
3. Buy Black
